Convert my Ox to rack and pinion
hello community,
I built from scratch what I can only describe as a routy Ox giant.
My bed measures approx 1500 x 3m long.
I opted to use gt3 timing belt when I started which has been ok, drives smooth enough but....
Has a tendency to bind if it catches anything and looses steps.
I have been know to accidentally stick something in its path on occasion.
So my belt runs inside the groove of the aluminium extrusion with steppers and cogs running horizontal to the aluminium.
What I would...

Non magnetic gantry materials
I am designing a 3 axis gantry to measure magnets and magnet arrays, up to 600mm x 200mm x 30mm.
I need to keep everything within about 150mm to the magnets non magnetic to not affect the fields. Does anyone know if the lead screws 300 series?. I may go with aluminum shafts from McMaster and plastic sleeve bearings for my Z axis, the rest can be V-groove.
Thanks

double z rails?
Hey everyone,
I've been considering ways to stiffen up the carriage on my mini-ox build, and I've been searching for ways to move the spindle closer to the X-rails. Is there any reason why nobody uses this sort of design for the z gantry?
View attachment 8761
This eliminates the need for the spacer blocks, moving the whole spindle closer by 12mm. Without spacer blocks, the wheels are also stiffer and can probably bear more compression. This also opens up the possibility of using ball...

Longest Linear rail possible using a Screw driven rail?
Hey there everybody,
Decided to try my hand at building CNCs. and Boy does this site have resources for this.
So basically, I want to make a 1.2 x 2m CNC using Aluminum channels. and I wonder if screw driven linear actuators, given that I find screws long enough, can handle such a long run for both X&Y? I can use belts for now as I only intend on using the CNC for marking/scribing, but I have to know if I can use screws for runs that long without issues as I'll probably attempt to add...

Stepper specs and their meanings?
I'm relatively new to the cnc concept and was shopping around for steppers. I kniw that holding torque is more or less the "strength" of a stepper and that the voltage and amperage are used in power supply consideration. But I'm a bit lost with inductance and what all these specs mean on different steppers.
IE; what does a high vs low inductance rating do for steppers.
I see steppers with huge torque ratings but only a fraction of the amp rating on lower torque steppers. Are these just...

Starter material question (I'm very new )
I want to cut out a compound bow riser out of fiberglass. I am confused as to how to do it. My starter material is not flat. It has a 2 inch rise in the center. I have an example in a picture. Is it possible to cut material that is not uniform?

Limit switches and negative coordinates with TinyG.
Happy Sunday
So I decided I wanted to put some homing switches on my OX CNC. I put one on the front of the frame for the Y axis. The switch works but Im not sure the front even though the tinyg documentation says it should be is the right place. When I tell it to home Y it always heads to the back of the machine. I tried swapping the motor polarities in the firmware wondering if that controlled what direction it would home in but no dice. It still wants to go to the back. Also when I...
