Change gt3 timing belts for something else??
hello community,
I built from scratch what I can only describe as a routy Ox giant.
My bed measures approx 1500 x 3m long.
I opted to use gt3 timing belt when I started which has been ok, drives smooth enough but....
Has a tendency to bind if it catches anything and looses steps.
I have been know to accidentally stick something in its path on occasion.
So my belt runs inside the groove of the aluminium extrusion with steppers and cogs running horizontal to the aluminium.
What I would...

double z rails?
Hey everyone,
I've been considering ways to stiffen up the carriage on my mini-ox build, and I've been searching for ways to move the spindle closer to the X-rails. Is there any reason why nobody uses this sort of design for the z gantry?

This eliminates the need for the spacer blocks, moving the whole spindle closer by 12mm. Without spacer blocks, the wheels are also stiffer and can probably bear more compression. This also opens up the possibility of using ball...

Best way to cut paper?
Hi Folks,
Can anyone share their thoughts on building a paper cutter? I want to cut vinyl paper 0.2mm ( Peel and Stick ).
Paper would cut in 3 inches x 8 feet strips.
Thanks

PCB Making plotter/drill only 100x150mm. Any ideas?
Hi,
I am in need of a cnc machine to do pen plotting/scraping, cnc drilling, and maybe light milling with a Dremel.
The PCB's I need to make will only be 100 x 150 mm max.
Any ideas please?
I can use a 3d printer, but the z axis movement need be small, so it would be a waste to get a complete 3d printer. Accuracy is important, especially if scraping is used, because multiple passes will be done.
Please point me to a reasonably priced solution.
Thank you
Johan Smit

Shapeko 2/ Xcarve using VSlot
Hi, I am new to the forum and CNC in general. I have been exploring to build a hobby CNC and after a lot of looking around, narrowed on Shapeko 2/ Xcarve type design. I wanted to check if anyone has built Shapeko 2/ Xcarve using 20x40 Vlsot? Other than simplicity, 20x40 & 20x20 is the only Vlsot available in my country, so the reason for choosing this design.
Comments/ thoughts appreciated.
thanks and regards

Hidden Connections
This is just a simple idea I was thinking about regarding non-structural hidden connections. Overall the connections seem relatively stout as the screw head has a reasonable amount of plastic locked below it inside the track but the PLA they were made with is too slick and the joint has a tendency to slide no matter how tight the fit is. As soon as I get a heated bed working I will make another attempt in ABS.

M5 screw depth going into vslot
I'm trying to calculate what range of M5 screw lengths I could use connecting into T-nuts in the vslot grooves. Surprisingly, I don't see a dimension in the vslot cross-sectional drawing from the outer edge of vslot to the central core wall. Does anyone happen to know what that value is? Didn't see it readily on search of forum threads.
Thanks, Scott
